13 May 2017 – Saturday
We had the usual early breakfast today and quickly went around CBD to explore other places before our trip to east of Melbourne.
We took the free tram ride to Flinders Street Station, one of the famous train station in Melbourne. It is the first railway station in an Australian city, busiest station on Melbourne’s metropolitan network and the busiest railway station in Australia (according to Google :D)
Across the street is St. Paul’s Cathedral.
We walked further past the Southbank Promenade and to National Gallery of Victoria
We went back to the hotel just in time for the tour. We headed to east of Melbourne for today’s tour. It was an hour long drive.
Our first stop was Puffing Billy. It is Australia’s premier preserved steam railway which was operated in the 1900s.
It is a steam railway where you can experience to dangle your legs out of the carriages as you enjoy magnificent views of the Dandenong Ranges.
The journey starts in Belgrave and for about 30 mins we enjoyed the relaxing view through the forest. The trip ended in one of their stations, Menzie’s Creek.
We had buffet lunch at Cuckoo restaurant located just within the Dandenong Ranges.
After the sumptuous feast, we headed straight to Yarra Valley, home of some of the fine wineries in Melbourne.
We had somewhat like a seminar on wines where the staff discussed different kinds of wines, how to properly drink wine (you just don’t drink it straight from the glass) in which, at the end of the day, i didn’t learned anything except on how to actually drink it. haha! You need to mix it first, check the color, smell it before you drink.
The tour didn’t include walking on the vineyard, but we had some free time after the wine tasting so we decided to explore the greenery.
We were disappointed as the harvest season was over 😦 I have not seen a full grown vineyard huhu
Since waley na mga ubas, Photo op na lang 😀
The tour was over as early as 3 in the afternoon. We returned to Melbourne for our last stop: Souvenir hunting at Direct Factory Outlet (DFO). Unfortunately, they only allowed an hour for us to roam around. Hello? ambilis para sa shopping! haha kala mo naman me pera no? From this point, we decided to tour by ourselves. My colleague, Rudzon, also arranged to meet his friend and planned on going to his house and have some BBQ. More interesting than our trip, eh? joke.
From DFO, we walked to Southern Cross station for a train ride to St. Albans which is an hour travel and from the station, we walked around 20mins and reached kuya Rico’s house. I felt like I’m literally freezing as we walked from the station to kuya Rico’s house. It was 9 degrees that night. We started preparing for our barbeque as soon as we arrived. Good thing my friend Win John is with us; instant cook 😀
Since we are in Australia and it’s famous for their Kangaroos and Koalas, we decided to try it for the bbq.
I didn’t even enjoyed our well-seasoned bbq dinner because of my freakin’ braces. Yes, ngayon pa sya naginarte at nasira! But I got to taste everything!
We had a fun bbq night though it’s freezing. I was amazed as it is my first time to go to a house with a heater! haha! I was literally standing beside it, seriously! My 3 layer top outfit wasn’t enough, I guess 😀
It was past 10 in the evening when we decided to go home, in time for the last trip to Southern Cross and to Flinders Street Station. We arrived almost midnight and we’re sure all of our colleagues are dozing off their sleep.
So this was my experience on the 4th night in the Land Down Under! Hoping I could finish this Australia entry within the week! Thank you for reading! 😀
